One of the most successful tennis players in the world, Maria Sharapova, has announced her retirement from the game.

Jung-min, tell us more about this big name departure from the tennis world.
Se-min, as you say, Sharapova is retiring from tennis.
She announced her decision in an essay for Vanity Fair Wednesday,… saying she’s “ready to scale another mountain.”
The 32-year-old wrote she might choose her “next mountain”,… and she will be “pushing and climbing.”
Born in Russia, Sharapova grew up in Florida.
She won five Grand Slam titles throughout her career.
She beat Serena Williams at the 2004 Wimbledon final,… when she was only 17-years-old.
A year later, she climbed to world Number One,… and stayed on top for 21 weeks.
She won the U.S. Open in 2006,… the Australian Open in 2008,… and then went on to win the French Open in 2012 and 2014.
Her career earnings reached more than 38-million U.S. dollars.
But her reputation was marred when she was barred from playing for 15 months after a doping ban in 2016.
Recently, she has struggled with injuries in her right shoulder.
She retires as the world’s 3-hundred-73th best player in the World Tennis Association singles rankings.
